A Star Falls From Heaven
10And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; 11And the name of the star is called Wormwood:and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter
Being consistent with our symbology we realize this is not an actual start. This should be an easy one yet there are many who will try to make this an actual star that falls from space and pollutes a third part of the water. Revelation already reveals to us that a star represents an angel.
The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches:and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.
It should be further noted that the fifth trumpet speaks of a star that had fallen. I know that KJV does not make this absolutely clear, however, the star of the fifth trumpet had already fallen and in that case, the trumpet is about giving the star a key to the pit which releases terrible creatures upon the earth. If the star in the fifth trumpet has already been cast down, when did it happen? Well during the third trumpet! Remember what we are seeing here is the fall of Babylon, not an earthly Babylon, rather the one that exists in the Heavens. Of course, if you are going to cast down this kingdom you will have to cast down the leader. We find the prophet Isaiah telling us about this.
How are you fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how are you cut down to the ground, which did weaken the nations!
The book of Revelation fills in the details about this event. I will remind you that the book of Revelation has the seals, trumpets, and vials as outlines and the parenthetical verses that fill in the details. So here are the details of this event.
3And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. 4And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth:and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born threescore days. And there was war in heaven:Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world:he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast 7And there was war in heaven:Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, 8And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. 9And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world:he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.10And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ:for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night
I recently heard a well-known radio and television preacher of whom I respect speak on this passage of Satan’s fall. He spoke as if this fall had already taken place. I have talked with other Christians who seem quite surprised when I suggest Satan has not already fallen from Heaven. Satan has certainly fallen from his original state of perfection and has become the author of sin in this world (1 John 3:8).
Satan however still has access to Heaven or else he is no longer coming before God’s throne as the accuser of the brethren. That is what the above passage tells us he is continually doing now. In the book of Job, Satan comes before God as the accuser and that was taking place after the fall of man in the garden. So if one believes Satan’s fall has already taken place, when did it happen? It had to have happened after Job and before the events of the Tribulation. I know of no place in scripture to teach us it did, so we just have to believe that Satan is still actively accusing the brethren in Heaven right up until the Tribulation. It is then God declares He has had enough and Michael throws him down to earth.
One other interesting thing about this passage. Those who believe the star is symbolic tend to want to see this star as some man that has great authority—some religious leader. Now let me confess that I am very disappointed in Christain unwillingness to believe that Satan is actually a real being. I say that because whenever it comes to the spiritual world they try to place some human in this place. Isaiah plainly tells us that Satan will be seen on earth for who he is.
15Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. 16They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; 17That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners
There are many more things that could be said about this being Satan, but I think that I have sufficiently provided enough references to prove my point. So then what happens when Satan is cast to the earth. The waters of the earth are turned bitter. Again we are dealing with symbols as we don’t have to search the news or geography to find the meaning, we just need to search the Bible. Water is needed for life and that is how it is used all the time in the Bible. We can especially look at John’s writings to know about water.
13Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: 14But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
In Numbers chapter five there was the law given for the jealous husband. The priest was to give the wife bitter water, wherein that if she had committed adultery it would cause her to rot. If she was innocent it had no effect. I think there is much to meditate upon when we place these to scriptures next to each other. Those who are pure before God the bitter water will not harm them, but those who have committed whoredom against God will be harmed by the water. There are many who have turned from the teaching of Christ and listen to Satan’s lies—this will only be magnified during the tribulation.
I can’t help but to see and event that resembles this. There was a wicked man named Aleister Crowley who lived in the early part of the twentieth century. He is considered one of the evilest men to have lived in the modern era. Some decades later a man named Timothy Leary said he took over the work of Crowley to continue his teaching of “Do what thou wilt is the whole of the law.” It was later condensed to; “Do your own thing.” Timothy Leary told the young people to “Turn on, tune in, drop out” and take drugs (LSD). In 1967, Leary was part of the Human Be In that took place in San Francisco’s Golden State Park. It was to me the star falling because it was televised. This bitter water, these lies, spread throughout the whole nation. It has such an impact that in the summer of 1968 over a hundred thousand young people ascended upon San Francisco and called it the “Summer of Love.” It was an orgy and a drug feast. The young people could not longer stay in the city as there was not enough work and food. They followed out from their and became known as the Hippies. These people carried with them just about every evil thought there is and entered into our educational and legal systems. The voted in their evil and now much of America no longer has a Christian based society. This is just a real life illustration of the third trumpet.
